2PM’s Taecyeon Happy for Active Military Service Instead of Public Service Duty

After a medical examination, 2PM's Taecyeon was chosen to go into active military duty instead of public service, and he's happy about it. In 2008 he had a herniated lower back disk that qualified him for public service duty. He said, "If you're a Korean man then you should definitely serve in the military," and received disk correction surgery out of his own volition. He then went under another medical examination, when he was cleared for active military service.

This occurrence is quite unexpected since most people do everything they can to avoid the sacred duty of serving in the military. Taecyeon considered this service so important that he purposely gave up his permanent residence in America back in 2010.

Taecyeon's determination to be granted the permission to actively serve led him on an arduous journey. Despite being busy with his activities and 2PM and acting career, he sought out to fix his herniated back disk. He received two rounds of disk surgery in 2012 and in 2013.

Other athletes or celebrities who receive public service duty due to a herniated lower back disc usually go ahead and take the relatively easier route. However, Taecyeon was different.

In 2013 he had to face another hump. He broke his arm while on tour in Japan. In order to prevent being pardoned again from active military duty, he underwent another surgery to fix the broken arm.

According to someone close to Taecyeon, he was ecstatic to be granted the permission to serve actively in the military, and even said, "I finally did it," and couldn't hide his joy at the news.

Taecyeon is currently pursuing graduate international studies at Korea University. He debuted in 2008 as a member of 2PM, and has earned the title of being a 'beast idol' for his outstanding performance in 2PM. He even pursued acting and appeared in works such as the drama "Dream High" and in the movie "Wedding Eve."
