Alexander Semin scored his seventh and eighth goals on assists by Eric Staal in the third period to lift Carolina to a 3-2 win over the Panthers last night as coach Kirk Muller reunited his top line for the first time since a season ago.

"We're going to be in a lot of tight games," Muller told NHL.com. "There are guys that are game-breakers and can score that key goal. We have them in our lineup, and we will need them in these games coming up. When your top guys do that, that's the extra little tool you can have."

The Hurricanes are near the bottom of the Metropolitan Division, but have actually won six of their last eight games. Meanwhile, the Lightning have lost two in a row, but have the chance to tie the Bruins for first place in the Atlantic.

Martin St. Louis is red-hot coming into this game as he has eight goals and three assists over Tampa's last eight games. All four goals in the 5-4 loss vs the Sharks yesterday came from St. Louis. He actually had a hat trick in a span of less than seven minutes.

"I did appreciate [scoring four goals] until we were down and the game was over," said St. Louis, who has eight goals and three assists during a seven-game point streak and is tied with four players, including Pavelski, for third in the NHL with 25 goals. "It's tough to really be glad about it."

"If you told me before the game we were going to score four goals in two periods, regardless if Marty's got all four of them, and come out on the wrong end of the score, it's frustrating," coach Jon Cooper said.
