American Hustle Director To Make The Next 'Downton Abbey' With ABC TV Series: Will David O. Russell Work With Jennifer Lawrence Again?

As "American Hustle" continues its dominance during the award season, director David O. Russell is gearing up to take over the small screen with an upcoming TV series for ABC.

According to EW, David O. Russell has sold a TV series project to ABC in collaboration with "Erin Brockovich" writer Susannah Grant, which is going straight to series.

Reportedly, the TV series will be about "an upstairs/downstairs soap centered on a private country club."

Sound familiar?

No doubt many "Downton Abbey" fans are curious to see an American take on the upstairs/downstairs dynamic, and with "American Hustle" performing so well, surely the director has earned credibility.

Currently, "American Hustle" is up for 10 Academy Awards including Best Picture. This is the third time director David O' Russell has been nominated for the category, with "The Fighter" and "Silver Linings Playbook" having been previously nominated.

As seen in "Downton Abbey," one feature that highlights an upstairs/downstairs TV drama is a large and diverse cast, and fans of "American Hustle" and David O' Russell are already speculating on who will star in the TV series.

One prominent suspect is Jennifer Lawrence, who has starred in both "American Hustle" and "Silver Linings Playbook."

In addition, Screen Rant reports that Lawrence is also committed to another David O'Russell film, "The Ends of the Earth," which is a "fact-based love story about a powerful oil tycoon who has everything stripped from him after he is caught in an affair."

With the director and Jennifer Lawrence doing so many projects together, one has to wonder whether Jennifer Lawrence will follow David O' Russell to the small screen as well.
