5 Legend Of Korra Facts You Missed About Asami, Tenzin, Pema, And Naga!

As "The Legend of Korra" fans eagerly await Book 3, there may be some fun trivia you've missed while watching the Nickelodeon hit.

While pouring over "Legend of Korra" information and facts, this reporter found some very interesting tidbits about our cast of characters.

Naga

"When we were developing the original series back in 2002, Bryan had done a sketch of a bipedal polar bear-dog creature. We never found a place for it in 'Avatar: The Last Airbender," wrote Michael DiMartino to the Hollywood Reporter.

"But when we came up with Korra's character, we wanted her to have an animal mode of transport and revisited that old drawing. The new model of Naga is modeled after our dogs, who are brothers."

Asami's Eyes

An interesting detail about Asami is her eyes, which will change from green to yellow, perhaps when her emotions change. Although it has never been explicitly stated in "The Legend of Korra," Asami most likely has Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation roots.

Tenzin

The name Tenzin comes from the Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th and current Dalai Lama.

Pema

By the same token, Pema is named after famous Buddhist nun Pema Chodron, an American figure in Tibetan Buddhism.

Korra

Korra was the name decided by a dog.

"Mike and I went on a landscape photography trip in February of 2010, right before we moved back into the Nickelodeon studios to begin working on the new series in earnest, and we still didn't have a name," wrote Bryan Konietzko.

"We arrived at the eco-lodge where we would be taking the photo workshop all week, and the owner showed us inside and introduced us to his dog, Cora. My ears perked up and I immediately said to Mike, 'That's the name!'"

Korra also turned 18 between "The Legend of Korra" Book 1 and Book 2. In fact, most of the main characters' birthdays occurred during the six months between the Books.
