Mnet 'M! Countdown' Plans Reorganization For 10 Year Anniversary

To celebrate Mnet's 'M! Countdown' 10 year anniversary, the program will be undergoing a drastic reorganization and come back fresh on the 27th.

The music ranking and selection system, the show's structure and MC are some of the things that will be changed during this reorganization period. This will, hopefully, allow viewers to empathize more with the program as well as their music rankings and charts.

The most noticeable change that is being brought forth is the 'social media' section of the music ranking system. Recognizing the importance of the growing digital age, M! Countdown will place more percentage weight on the 'social media' section. Starting on the 27th the percentages will be the following: Digital Album sales (50%), Physical Album sales (10%), Social media (10%), Asia Music Fan Votes (10%), Program ranking (10%) and SMS Votes (10%). The 'social media' section takes into account the number of YouTube views of the artist's official music video as well as total SNS mentions.

One of the most important changes, however, is the deviation from focusing too much on the 1st place artist. M! Countdown's original system awarded the spotlight to the first placing artist/group, completely dismissing other artists/groups who were also high up on the ranking. To counter this, the reorganization will bring forth a new Top 10 ranking that will place importance on the highest-ranking 10 songs of the week.

M! Countdown's producer Yoon Shin Hye stated, "Because the current music market is displaying a rapid change in consumption behavior, we have decided to drastically change our ranking and selection system. We believe that placing an importance on the Top 10 is relevant. Through our various changes, we hope to bring a music chart that is refreshing and differentiated enough that it will represent the current music scene."

With the program's debut on July of 2004, M! Countdown has been on air for approximately 10 years.

Stay tuned for an upgraded, new M! Countdown this upcoming week on the 27th!
