Units Are The New Thing For Idols

By Staff Reporter | March 12, 2014 04:33 AM EDT

The music industry is being struck again with idol units.

Project unit Soyou and JungGiGo is showing steady popularity across the starboard, and Woohyun and Key have joined them with the unit group Toheart. Recently Rainbow's unit Rainbow BLAXX concluded their activities, and Orange Caramel is looking forward to their comeback soon. Nowadays there are many idol units in the music world.

Toheart is noteworthy just in the fact that it combines members from the two boy groups INFINITE and SHINee. Internet users are very happy that two familiar faces are coming together in a fresh combination. With Toheart's release of their new song "Delicious" on the 10th, the song rose to the top of music charts such as Bugs Music and Soribada. "Delicious" is a pop and punk genre song that highlights both Woohyun and Key's individual charms. It was nice to see that they shed their usual boy group images in a refreshing new way.

Soyou and JungGiGo's successful project unit is a classic example of an idol unit's success. Their duet "Some" was released on the 7th last month, and has been going strong and steady at the top of numerous music charts. Not only that, they ranked number 1 on KBS 2TV's "Music Bank" for 3 weeks straight. They weren't shaken even by idol girl group and boy group's comebacks, and this unit group took advantage of a male and female duet.

SM the Ballad's Girls' Generation member Taeyeon and SHINee's Jonghyun's combination is also very popular. These two talented vocalists shine when they're together. Bom and Lee Hi's unit sang a season song last year and attracted much attention. In addition unique and sexy unit Trouble Maker was composed of 4MINUTE's HyunA and BEAST's Jang Hyunseung, who then shook up the music industry with their exceptional performance.

Idol units are not a new concept. It's something that's been tried various times before. Super Junior released various units in Korea, China, Japan, and foreign markets such as Super Junior K.R.Y, Super Junior M, and Eunhyuk & Donghae. Girls' Generation's TTS, After School's Orange Caramel, SISTAR's SISTAR 19, and Rainbow's Rainbow BLAXX are just some of the numerous examples of idol units.

These unit groups take popular members from idol groups and combine them with other music members in a refreshing way, and music fans approve of these idol members' efforts. The music industry is constantly buzzing with new units, and we can most definitely look forward to many more combinations in the days to come.
