In a major "Grey's Anatomy" twist, season 10 will see the return of Isaiah Washington as Preston Burke, coinciding with Sandra Oh's Cristina Yang leaving the series.

“It’s important to me that Cristina’s journey unfolds exactly as it should,” says series creator Shonda Rhimes in a statement. “Burke is vital to that journey — he gives her story that full-circle moment we need to properly say goodbye to our beloved Cristina Yang.”

TVLine reports that Isaish Washington will return for one episode in May, although how that will figure into Cristina Yang's exit from "Grey's Anatomy" season 10 remains a mystery.

As fans remember, Isaiah Washington was effectively "fired" from "Grey's Anatomy" at the end of season 3 after a whirlwind of controversy surrounding the actor and T.R. Knight.

But now that one major "Grey's Anatomy" character is returning to properly give another character her goodbyes, fans are hoping there is room for the return of another controversial cast member—Katherine Heigl.
"I think they should bring Izzie back," writes fan Sherry Edwards.

It wasn't too long ago that Heigl herself voiced an interest to return to "Grey's Anatomy."

“I really, really, really want to see where [Izzie] is. I just want to know what happened to her and where she went and what she's doing now. My idea is that she actually figures it out and finds some success and does really well in a different hospital, because she was always floundering and one step behind the 8-ball and I wanna see that girl like, take some power back.”
