According to LongIsland.com, the St Patrick's Day Parade in NYC starts at 11AM on 44th Street. The route will take revelers to Fifth Avenue and past New York attractions like the St Patrick's Cathedral at 50th Street and Central Park. The route eventually goes all the way up to 79th Street, where the parade will finish around 4:30 PM or 5:00 PM.

More than 2 million people are expected to show up for the annual parade, whose 2014 grand marshal is Jack Ahern of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 30, TimeOut New York reports.

The first St. Patrick's Day Parade was held in 1972 and has become one of the oldest traditions in the Big Apple, LongIsland.com reports. It was originally held in Lower Manhattan before the Saint Patrick's Cathedral was built on Fifth Avenue.

"Unlike most other parades held in the city streets, this one has stayed true to its roots by not allowing floats," the website adds.

Every year, the St. Patrick's Day Parade averages 150,000 to 200,000 marchers along with bagpipers, bands and high school bands who are all escorted by a unit of soldiers.
