NBA Season Standings 2013-2014: Brooklyn Nets Living Up To Pre-Season Expectations By Getting Playoff Spot Despite Terrible Start

NBA Season Predictions, Standings 2013-2014: As told by Bleacher Report, the Brooklyn Nets maybe one of the best line-up on paper after making a huge and very strong line up in the offseason. Providing quality players from the first five players of the team until the last player in the bench posing a huge threat for the defending champions Miami Heat coming in the season.

But that's just the offseason, things took a turn when the regular season started and up until half of the season, the Nets were very shaky recording just nine wins and 17 losses having a just a .346 winning percentage.

Added to the very ugly winning record of the Nets, to make matters worse is one of the key players they have received an season-ending injury that would probably make the team struggle more.

Brooklyn star big man Brook Lopez is out for the rest of the season as he re-injured the fifth metatarsal of his surgically repaired right foot late in one of their game against the Sixers.

General manager of the Nets Billy King thought about trades and major lineup adjustment including a trade for another veteran star player, Paul Pierce.

"If there's a deal out there that we feel is going to make us a better team, we'll do it regardless of tax or the future, but we're not going to panic and do a move just to make a move because we feel we have to," King said Sunday. "I still believe in this group. Brook's a big part of it, but we do have other guys, that's why we have depth."

Rumors are going around about a possible trade for Nets to acquire Pau Gasol and to put Pierce side-by-side Kobe Bryant and send him back to his hometown in California.

But all speculations and rumors didn't happen as the Nets got back on their feet and took the season one game at a time to get back above .500 percent and get a comfortable spot at top eight to get to the playoffs.

NBA analysts expressed their thought about the rumored Pierce move that didn't happen:

James Herbert of Hardwood Paroxysm: "They should at least explore moving Pierce for him. With Kirilenko coming back soon, swapping Pierce for Pau would make Brooklyn more balanced. Not sure the Lakers would entertain the idea of trading Gasol for someone older than him, though."

Mike Mazzeo, ESPN NY: "Considering they're in win-now mode, they should explore all their options. With a lack of young assets and future draft picks, it makes sense to try to make short-term upgrades, i.e., pursuing a Gasol deal if possible."

Paul Pierce, who was born and raised in California, dreamt to be a Laker one day as he played basketball for Inglewood High School in California before moving to Kansas for college until he got drafted in the NBA.

"I had dreams of wearing a Laker uniform at that age." Paul Pierce shares this to ESPN.

Even though he played most of his career with Lakers' biggest rival the Boston Celtics, he enjoyed all the time he had when he was in Boston even becoming the franchise player for the team.

"Just to tell you, I didn't want to be a Boston Celtic. But I am a Boston Celtic, and I've enjoyed every moment of it," he said.

New York has never been lucky in their NBA teams recently as both the Knicks and the Nets struggle with both good looking lineups on paper but both failed to perform well during the season.
