Akdong Musician Donated Their $300,000 Prize From 'K-Pop Star 2'

The brother-sister duo Akdong Musician donated all of their $300,000 prize money from SBS "K-Pop Star 2".

Akdong Musician's agency YG Entertainment said, "Akdong Musician discussed the matter with their parents and decided to donate all of the $300,000."

A rep for the agency mentioned that they were "surprised" when they were told that the siblings donated their hard-earned money.

They won first place on "K-Pop Star 2" last April and were given $300,000 as the prize in addition to being able to choose which of the three major record labels they would sign to.

Akdong Musician recently released their debut album "PLAY" with songs that member Lee Chan Hyuk wrote himself. The album has been on the top of various music charts since his release.

The duo has been receiving the love of fans for staying humble throughout the increasing fame they've been getting for their album.

When they met up with a reporter backstage at Mnet's "M! Countdown" on May 8, they expressed their shock in regards to how big they've been getting.

"We're grateful that we are loved more than was expected. When we heard that we won #1, we wondered, 'What's this about?' 'Is this really our work?' and looked up articles to confirm it was really us," stated the siblings.

Their title track "200%" has ranked No. 1 on "Music Bank" and "Inkigayo" for three weeks, according to Allkpop.

"I didn't expect it, but we ranked first for a long time. The results aside, I was just grateful for the chance to release an album. After winning the tremendous award of a 'Triple Crown,' I became aware of the huge amount of love we were receiving and thought we should work harder," stated Lee Chan Hyuk.

The singer added, "Now that we've released an album, I found parts ot it I wanted to change. I thought that i could have sung better and put more emotion into it. I learned a lot. There are a lot of things I want to try. 'Melted' was the first step and now I will try to gradually expand."

The duo received praise from JYP's Park Jin Young as well for "PLAY."

"It was our first time meeting Park Jin Young sunbaenim again since 'K-Pop Star 2' was over and I was really happy and grateful for his praise," stated Lee, according to enews.
