'Zelda Wii U' Release Date, Trailer, and News: Creator And Nintendo Exec Miyamoto Calls New Game "Vast," But Dislikes Term "Open World" [VIDEO]

At last month's E3, Nintendo announced an upcoming Zelda game for Wii U, as well as three other games in the works.

Nintendo made the announcement during a general shareholder's meeting. They said that aside from a Zelda game for the Wii U, and "Hyrule Warriors," the series will be making its return to the 3DS hand-held sometime in the future.

Nintendo has not announced a specific Wii U elda release date, but at the end of the trailer shown at E3, the year 2015 flashed across the screen. The real question is if Nintendo intends to release the game before or after next years E3.

A shareholder asked that specific question to which Shigeru Miyamoto, Senior Managing Director and General Manager of Integrated Research & Development Division, and he said, "Although this Annual General Meeting of Shareholders is a special opportunity, I am afraid I cannot give you any information other than what has been officially announced." and, "At this point, there are a few titles under development in "The Legend of Zelda" series, so please look forward to their completion," he added.

Miyamoto has also expressed his excitement over the next Wii U Zelda game which generally deviates from past titles. As previous Zelda games were linear, where players would go from one dungeon to another, the Wii U release will feature an "open world," where players can freely choose where to go, giving the game a more action-adventure feel. But don't let him catch you calling it that.

Speaking at a Q & A between Nintendo & its investors at Nintendo's annual shareholders meeting last week, Miyamoto said that he prefers not to use the term, "open world."

"I prefer not to use the generally used term "open world" when developing software, but we used this term [at E3] in order to make it easier for consumers to understand. This term means that there is a large world in which players can do numerous things daily."

With this said, Miyamoto does not hesitate to call Zelda's new world "vast."

"In the traditional "The Legend of Zelda" series, the player would play one dungeon at a time. For example, if there are eight dungeons, at the fourth dungeon, some players may think, "I'm already halfway through the game," while other players may think, "I still have half of the game to play." We are trying to gradually break down such mechanism and develop a game style in which you can enjoy "The Legend of Zelda" freely in a vast world, whenever you find the time to do so."

Internet buzz intensified when series producer Eiji Aonuma hinted that the character riding through a forest on his beloved horse in the E3 trailer may not actually be the famous long-time hero, Link.

He said, "No one explicitly said that that was Link."

Miyamoto also declined to comment further on the titles and release date of Zelda Wii U, but confirmed that the series is making its return to the 3DS.

There are also speculations that the game will feature a multiplayer component.
