Rory McIlroy emerged victorious at the 2014 British Open in Liverpool after finishing with -1 in the last round but a total of -17 to have a slim 2 stroke lead ahead of Sergio Garcia and Ricky Fowler, who both finished with -15.

“I’m happy I gave myself enough of a cushion today because there were a lot of guys coming at me, especially Sergio and Rickie,” McIlroy said.

After winning his third major championship, the northern Ireland native claimed that The Open is the one he is more looking forward to after falling into pressure in the final round at Augusta for the Masters.

“The Open is the one that we all want, the one we all strive for,” McIlroy said

McIlroy said that after winning the 2014 British Open that he is looking forward for more major titles in the future.

“Golf is looking to someone to put their hand up and try,” he said. “I want to be the guy that goes on and wins majors and wins majors regularly.”

Rory McIlroy throughout the past years struggled a few times and dropped a few tournaments after falling out of his rhythm a few times. Fellow golfers, meanwhile, commented about his major win and said that he was on his winning mode that pushed the 2014 British Open winner to claim the crown.

“The way he plays is pretty aggressively,” Tiger Woods said on Sunday. “When he gets it going, he gets it going. When it gets going bad, it gets going real bad. It’s one or the other.”

“It’s hard to say that there really is any course that doesn’t suit him when he’s on his game, and I’ve seen him play very well there,” Ricky Fowler said. “It’s just a matter of time.”

Meanwhile, after having a comfortable lead coming in the final round, a heckler has been bugging him the entire tournament and particularly the last round, where he even said that the heckler “intentionally coughed” on his down swing on the 16th hole.

“I knew who it was, so I turned around and got him chucked out, thankfully,” McIlroy said.

At the end of the tournament, meanwhile, while holding his trophy and claiming to be a fan of Manchester United, the Irish golfer got booed by a few Liverpool fans, where he was in the venue filled with Liverpool and Everton fans.
