K-Pop Desinations: Macao's Romantic K-Drama Moments

Macao is a location that's featured prominently in the opening episode of "Fated To Love You," starring Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara. It's where Jang Hyuk goes to propose and Jang Nara brings her boyfriend. Fate intervenes when Jang Hyuk's girlfriend fails to show up and Jang Nara accidentally winds up in his bed. Scenes used during the filming of that drama's early footage include the Grand Canal Shoppes and St. Mark's Square, as well as the luxurious hotel known as the Venetian Macao.

It's not the first k-drama filmed in Macao. It also served as a filming location for "Boys Over Flowers." Remember when Gu Hye Sun goes to visit Lee Min Ho and he ignores her? That also took place inside The Venetian Macao. After her rejection she takes a gondola ride with Kim Hyung Joon so the trip was not a total waste.

Fans of the drama can relive it by riding in the gondola, sampling Macao's egg tarts, walking through Senado Square and visiting the ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral.

Macao is also where Yoon Eun Hye lives when she leaves the palace in "Princess Hours." That's where Ju Ji Hoon follows her and the couple hears potentially happy news. The final episode of "Princess Hours' showcases some of the distinctive architecture in Macao, which represents its Portuguese and Chinese heritage.

Macao, also spelled Macau, is a region of the People's Republic of China located across the Pearl River Delta from Hong Kong. Languages spoken there include Mandarin and Cantonese but many people speak English due to the tourism-based economy.
