Macbook Pro 2014 Release Date Delayed: Intel Broadwell Chips Won't Be Ready Until Next Year, Third Party Retailers Like Best Buy Drop Prices On Last Year's Model [PHOTO]

The 2014 Macbook Pro release date may be dealayed until 2015 due to a processor shortage at Intel.

According to Economic Daily News via Mac Rumors, the 14nm Intel Broadwell chips are to be blamed for the alleged delay. The outlet says that the said Intel chips, long rumored to be under the hood of Apple's MacBook line of devices including the MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air, won't be out until February 2015.

The MacBook Pro 2014 was previously rumored to launch July 13. That is if the alleged statement of Brian Krzanich, Intel's CEO, is to be believed. IT Pro quoted the Intel exec as saying that the Broadwell chips needed for the MacBook Pro 2014 "will be ready in time for the Christmas holidays."

But even before the promise of 14nm chips ready during the holiday season, the company has earlier delayed production for the said Broadwell chips due to "manufacturing issues," PC World said in a 2013 report. "We're planning to begin production in the first quarter of [2014]," the outlet quotes Krzanich as saying.

It isn't clear when the Intel Broadwell chips will be ready for MacBook Pro 2014 use but what's confirmed is that the integration of such chips onto the next-generation laptop will up the device's overall performance.

Mac Rumors, in another report, says that the 14nm chips are "30 percent faster and more power-efficient than Haswell." This translates to a lengthier battery life and better overall performance for the MacBook Pro 2014.

The next-generation Intel Broadwell chips will also make the rumored fanless MacBook Pro 2014 possible. As reported by 9to5 Mac, most designs based on the 14nm Intel chip are "expected to be fanless." Additionally, the processor "will deliver the most energy-efficient" chip that the company has ever produced, the outlet quotes Intel.

Other rumored specs and features of the upcoming MacBook Pro 2014 include an "anodised Aluminium cover finished in a glossy black," better input via possible touch-screen integration, Thunderbolt 3 and the recently announced OS X Yosemite, says IT Pro.

None of these rumors have been confirmed by Apple. In fact, the Cupertino-based company has not mentioned the MacBook Pro for a long time now - leaving fans and users of the laptop clamoring for information on what's next for the device.

As for the release date, the MacBook Pro 2014 release date will allegedly roll out in the 4th quarte of this year in time for Christams. That said, the  previously rumored July 13 release date came and went. Third party retailers have already started dropping the ice of last years model, which is generally an indication of that the next years model is on the way. But with the recently announced Intel chip delay, the release date could very well be pushed back to 2015 instead
