Jon Stewart Wants To Move From News Satire to Real News? Daily Show Host Takes a Cue From Rupert Murdoch to Launch CNN Bid on Kickstarter

Jon Stewart is where a lot of people get their news. The Daily Show may be a satire on the cable news reporting, but deft truths are regularly spouted from behind those jokes. Jon Stewart, who took over The Daily Show from Craig Kilborn, has always been on target in his social commentary. More on point than Fox News or MSNBC and definitely more in the know than CNN.

Jon wants to fix that. Stewart wants to fix CNN, but he needs our help.

Last night on The Daily Show, Jon Stewart launched a $10 billion campaign on Kickstarter to buy CNN. CNN was America's first 24-hour cable news network.

Taking a cue from Rupert Murdoch's recent overtures to buy Time Warner, the owner of such channels as HBO, which houses Stewart's comic buddy Bill Maher, Stewart announced the wants to buy CNN.

Rupert Murdoch will have to sell CNN if he buys Time Warner because he already owns one news network, Fox News. Experts say CNN should sell for about $10 billion.

"That's a lot of money for anyone," Stewart admitted. "But not a lot of money for everyone. Which is why tonight we are starting our Kickstarter campaign to buy CNN. You can buy it at letsbuyCNN.com."

This $10 billion, all-cash bid for CNN would let The Daily Show host reach over 100 million homes in the United States.

You can now help Jon make this happen. All it takes is ten dollars and a dream.
