'Deus Ex' Movie Release Date And News: 'Doctor Strange' Director Scott Derrickson Walks From Project While 'Predators' Writer Michael Finch Takes A Crack At The Script [PHOTO]

While it has generally been a sucessful game the "Deus Ex" movie has had some issues making it to the big screen.  Predators writer Michael Finch joins the "Deus Ex" movie, as "Doctor Strange" director Scott Derrickson drops out.

There has been a couple of signifcant changes in personnel for the still-in-development movie of the "Deus Ex" videogame series.

Firstly, Michael Finch, who previously penned Predators, has boarded the project to work on a script. Whether he will pick up the previous screenplay from C Robert Cargill and Scott Derrickson remains to be seen.

However, Derrickson was also attached to direct, and somewhat inevitably, that's no longer the case. Instead, his next two years at least are going to be spent bringing Marvel's "Doctor Strange" to the screen.

CBS Films, who bought the rights to the game. Roy Lee and Adrian Askarieh are producing.John Middleton is executive producing "Deus Ex."

Deus Ex, a Square Enix game that was introduced in 2000, spawned a sequel and a prequel, racking up awards and millions in sales. A new game titled "Deus Ex: Universe" is up next.

The movie is taking its cues from origin-oriented "Deus Ex: Human Revolution" and focuses on Adam Jensen, an ex-SWAT security specialist who undergoes mechanical augmentation in order to unravel a global conspiracy.

On top of writing Predators, Finch worked on Hitman: Agent 47, the reboot of the video game adaptation that stars Rupert Friend. The action movie hits theaters Feb. 27, 2015, and is getting a presentation at Comic-Con. He also worked on American Assassin for CBS Film

There's no word yet on who's going to replace Derrickson in the director's chair. Given the strength and depth of the source material, we remain cautiously optimistic over the Deus Ex movie though. When it gets a bit closer to actual production, we'll let you know..
