Adam Richman Weight Loss 2014: After Instagram Fight Controversy And Shedding 70 Pounds Can ‘Food Fighters’ Give Him A Second Chance?

Adam Richman, best known as the host of Travel Channel's "Man v. Food Nation," was caught in a controversial Instagram fight after he posted a photo showing off his 70 pound weight loss. After his crude comments to one Instagram user in particular, the Travel Channel pulled Adam Richman's new show "Man Finds Food." But will his NBC series "Food Fighters" give Adam Richman another chance?

The Instagram controversy started when Richman posted a picture of himself on Instagram wearing a large suit that reflected his 70-pound weight loss, TODAY reports. The suit had been ordered a year earlier, before Richman, 40, shed the pounds. He tagged the photo with the hashtag #thinspiration. Several Instagram users left comments noting that the hashtag #thinspiration is often used by people with eating disorders to encourage others to starve or purge.

In response, Adam Richman called one woman a nasty word and told another to "grab a razor blade and draw a bath. I doubt anyone will miss you," TODAY reports.

Since the Instagram fight controversy, the Travel Channel put an indefinite hold on his new show "Man Finds Food."

Richman apologized for his "inexcusable remarks."

"I've long since struggled with my body image and have worked very hard to achieve a healthy weight," Richman said, CNN reports. "Instead of responding to hurtful comments with compassion, I lashed out in anger. I'm not asking for sympathy, but rather understanding and forgiveness. I can say with certainty that I'm taking a deep look at myself and I'm incredibly sorry to everyone I've hurt."

But it's not over yet for Adam. NBC is taking a chance on the host by allowing "Food Fighters" to continue with its scheduled debut next Tuesday at 8 p.m. The show will document televised showdowns between home cooks and professional chefs. The amateur victor can win up to $100,000.

"The home cooks bring five of their best recipes and go against five mystery chefs," Richman said, explaining the show to the Miami Herald. "The chefs ascend usually in level of sort of ability, accomplishment and training. These final chefs in each of these food fights are true titans of culinary skill. And the thing is they don't know what dish they're making until just before the food fight; they come up with a strategy based upon that chef's expertise."
