"It's always great when you can kill off some main characters," he added, according to MailOnline. "You have the chance to do something powerful and emotional. We do get to kill a few of them this time around."

Wega Digital senior visual effects supervisor Joe Letteri earlier weighed in on the title change from "There and Back Again" to "Battle of the Five Armies" and he agreed that it's for the best.

"Yeah because it is the climax, and you really just need to know that there is another battle for Middle-earth," he told the Collider. "The whole extension of 'The Hobbit's' story has really been to get us to the point where we understand when we leave it what's going to happen when you pick up the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and this really does kind of set that tone."
