Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus: Sleek Ultrabook Specs Incl. 13.3” Display, Intel Haswell Processor, 4 GB RAM, Up to 256 GB Memory; Is It Enough To Beat Apple?

Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus: Powered by Intel Haswell dual-core i5/i7 ULV processor that clocks 1.6 GHz, this Windows 8 ultrabook sports a 13.3-inch IPS touchscreen display, 4 GB RAM and a 128-256 GB SSD internal storage-all compressed in a sleek metallic body that dares to challenge the Macbook Air.

Currently in the market, this ultrabook is much more expensive than its competitors; it is even $300 higher than the Macbook Air. So the question is: Is its specs and body worth it?

When it comes to design, the ATIV Book 9 Plus doesn't really look much different from its predecessors. Still, its body boasts to remain one of the thinnest bodies when it comes to laptops, with only a 13.6 mm waist in its thickest point.

Its metallic case comes in a dark ash-black color. Upon holding it, you will immediately feel its sturdiness and solidity. Even if you tightened you grip, the ultrabook does not squeak. Because of its hard body, it weighs 3.06 lbs. This is a bit heavier than last year's model, but it is still bearable.

Now here comes the good part: the screen. Samsung overly upgraded its display to a bursting high-quality 13.3-inch IPS touchscreen panel that has a resolution of 3200 x 1600 pixels. This is a mouth-watering feature for gamers and especially movie buffs.

However, some critics are saying that the monster resolution is no longer a practical move. Andrei Girbea of ultrabookreview.com says that the screen "feels like overkill to me. Don't get me wrong, I'm a strong advocate of high-density screens, but given Window's scaling limitations, you might actually need a microscope to be able to use this one in the classic desktop mode." Also, because of its glossiness, it is a bit difficult to use in direct sunlight.

In terms of providing a sound performance, it is safe to say that the ATIV Book 9 Plus delivers. It can easily handle simple and daily tasks and can bear light gaming as well. Mixed with a sleek body and vibrant screen, there is nothing to hate about this ultrabook (except maybe the price tag). Still, it has a long way to go if it plans on beating Apple's 13-inch laptop.
