Acer Aspire Switch 10 Review: 10.1” Windows Hybrid Tablet Doubles As Notebook; Specs Incl. Intel Atom Processor, 2 GB RAM, Up To 64 GB Memory, As Low As $379

Acer Aspire Switch 10 review: This new Windows hybrid tablet sports a 10.1-inch display, 2 GB, 32 or 64 GB of internal memory, and a detachable keyboard dock, all powered by a Intel Atom Z3745 quad-core Bay Trail Processor that clocks at 1.33 GHz. It is certainly not the top-class tablet that we have been waiting for, but it surely is a quality gadget that many of us can afford.

In spite of its low price, the Acer Aspire Switch 10 has an aluminum back and a plastic front and keyboard that still has a metallic feel, keeping a stylish classy look that looks more than its worth. Without the keyboard, the tablet measures 10.3 x 7 x 0.35 inches and weighs 1.3 pounds.

The hybrid tablet has a magnetic locking mechanism that latches itself to the keyboard without pressing a switch. The magnetic lock is strong enough to allow you to life the device by the screen or keyboard without detaching its parts. The keyboard dock's features are similar to the Lenovo Yoga line. Wired even praised the Switch 10's magnetic feature and called it "one of the most seamless and speedy" connections they have used.

However, it would have been great if the keyboard had two USB ports or if there were other docking stations for a hard drive or an extra battery.

With a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, the Switch 10's touchscreen interface can be viewed from different angles. Teamed up with its front-facing speakers, the hybrid tablet's bright IPS display is not bad for watching movies.

Under the hood, the Acer Aspire Switch 10 is quite similar to the Asus Transformer Book T100's processor. Its Intel Atom chipset is also common in the market as it is mostly used by inexpensive smartphones, tablets, notebooks, and desktops. But because of the Switch 10's "Bay Trail" chips, it slightly stands out because it can perform well with low power consumption.

Still, this Acer tablet still needs to step up the game when it comes to battery life. In most bench tests, it only lasted for five hours.

Available at 32GB and 64GB of storage for $379 and $429, respectively, the Acer Aspire Switch 10 is not the sharpest tool in the market. However, if you're after the basic functions of a notebook and the portability of a tablet at a pocket-friendly price, then this baby still delivers.
