"Gone Girl" cast Neil Patrick Harris shared a naked selfie on Twitter that allowed fans a sneak peek into the world of the "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" broadway show.

The Twitter pic, which showed "Gone Girl" cast Neil Patrick Harris wearing nothing but a smudged blue eye shadow, was captioned "Other dressing room. Post show. Post wig. Just did this." Even if he looked naked, his lower body was covered by the dresser, covering his private parts.

According to E! News, which also posted the photo, the 41-year-old actor's lipstick was smudged and looked like someone "who has just given his all."

The naked photo was actually preceded by another image shared by the actor before going on stage. In the image, the actor's makeup was still intact. It came with the caption, "Dressing room. Pre show. Pre wig. Let's do this. @HedwigOnBway."

British tabloid MailOnline reported that "Gone Girl" cast Neil Patrick Harris will be playing Hedwig until August 17. The actor has been performing the lead character seven times a week. The original schedule was actually extended after Neil Patrick Harris was cited at the Tony Awards.

Earlier this month, the "Gone Girl" movie trailer was released showing a very different Neil Patrick Harris, which means no more legen-wait for it-dary punchlines as Barney Stinson in "How I Met Your Mother."

Neil Patrick Harris plays Desi Collings, the former boyfriend of Amy Dunne and the prime suspect in Nick's mind. Although to be fair, Nick thinks everybody's guilty but him.

The New York Post called the attention of viewers on the performance of Neil Patrick Harris, who is more known for his comedic chops than in drama.

"It was already one of the year's most anticipated movies, but now 'Gone Girl' has gone and upped the ante with a special ingredient: a sunken-eyed Neil Patrick Harris," it said.
