Keke Palmer Is First African-American Cinderella On Broadway! ‘Masters Of Sex’ Actress Doesn’t “Really Celebrate”, Excited To Rehearse On Birthday As She “Didn’t Have Plans”

Keke Palmer is used to becoming the first to do everything. Not only was she the youngest ever to become a talk show host for BET, she is the youngest and the first African-American to become Cinderella on Broadway! Move aside, Carly Rae Jepsen, here comes the real princess!

Keke Palmer, who guest starred in this season of ‘Masters of Sex’ tweeted about her good news as soon as the press release went out.

Cinderella on Broadway congratulated her as well by making it official on its Twitter page.

The past few months, Broadway has seen the tiniest bit of race-blind casting when it comes to big, traditional Broadway shows. Norm Lewis became the first African-American actor to become the Opera Ghost/Stalker/Magician/Singing Teacher for ‘Phantom of the Opera’ on Broadway. Patina Miller broke ground by giving a Tony-Award winning performance as the Lead Player for ‘Pippin’.

Keke Palmer is a trailblazer, but a little bit of a party pooper as well. When an interviewer from Variety asked Keke how she will celebrate the good news, she replied, “I don’t really celebrate.”

And she isn’t too bummed that her 21st birthday coincides with the first days of ‘Cinderella’ rehearsals as she “didn’t really have other plans”. Girl, you gotta celebrate sometimes!

I’m sure the crazy Broadway actors will take her to all the good spots in Midtown.

Rodgers & Hammerstein's ‘Cinderella’ debuted on Broadway in 1960s and was revived in 2013. The 2013 production cast Laura Osnes in the title role, followed by the Canadian pop sensation Carly Rae Jepsen.
