Macbook Air Retina Display Release Date And Rumors: Possibly Delayed Due To Intel Broadwell Chip Production Issues: Will The Newest Macbook Be Ready By The Holiday Season? [PHOTO]

The Macbook Air Retina Display is coming, maybe. There has been a lot of conflicting information reported over the last few weeks.

It all comes down to a production delay over the newest Broadwell chips, which the Macbook Air Retina is rumored to be using. Intel has said that production is getting back to normal, but this may be for only one kind of chip, the kind not needed by the Macbook Air, if indeed it is using the Intel chip at all. If it is then production may be delayed past Christmas, if it isn't then it will arrive in time for the holiday season.

Apple has begun dropping the price of older models in anticipation of the release of the latest Macbook Air Retina.

However, Intel experienced a delay in their production lines earlier in the year, which has caused Apple to push their release of the new Macbook Airs a few months back. The company has announced, however, that production for the Broadwell chips has now returned to normal and will be shipping before the holiday season.

Apple needs the U variety chips to continue production of the Macbook Air, and these chips won't probably come out of the assembly line until 2015. This delay will also put the Macbook release to 2015.

Of course when the Broadwell U variant chips do come out, the Macbook Air with Retina Displays will follow soon. These new chips will be replacing the old Haswell chips in old Macbook Air models which will enable the new laptops to get an increase in battery life by as much as 30 percent. Until Intel ships out the Broadwell U variants, Apple can't push through with production.

According to Intel, "The first systems based on the Intel® Core processor will be on shelves for the holiday selling season," which means it is possible the MacBook Air Retina release could come in October or November ahead of a busy holiday shopping season.

"Intel architects and chip designers have achieved greater than two times reduction in the thermal design point when compared to a previous generation of processor while providing similar performance and improved battery life," the company added.

It has long been rumored that the said chip is also making its way to Apple's alleged MacBook Air 2014 Retina, Mac Rumors reported. The outlet said that the 14nm chip's suitability for use in thinner devices is right on, making fanless MacBook Air laptops quite possible.

However, Mac Rumors pointed out that the current-generation MacBook Air laptops make use of 15-watt Haswell-U series chips whereas the upcoming 14nm Broadwell-Y Core M chip "operates at approximately 5 watts" only.

This makes it unclear if the said Broadwell chips will truly be under the hood for the upcoming MacBook Air 2014, as previously rumored.

Mac Rumors reported that the first devices with Core M processors could be out before the end of the year and this may or may not include the alleged MacBook Air 2014 Retina display. Apple Insider, on the other hand, said that the vague release date as well as rumored production delays "strongly [suggests] that more powerful Broadwell chips may not hit the market until next year."
