Gene Simmons' Depression Comment Prompts Ban From Radio Station; Motley Crue's Nikki Six Reacts, Says 'I Don't Like Gene'

Gene Simmon's depression comment a couple of weeks ago provoked outrage that several radio stations in different countries have banned his band's music. Meanwhile, Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx also said his piece about the issue and went on to say that given the situation, "I don't like Gene."

While the rock star had already issued an apology, Australia's Triple M radio station, Canadian stations Power97 and BobFM and New York's WPYX DJ Uncle Vito have banned Kiss' music in protest for Gene Simmons' earlier comments, The Daily Mail reported.

In an interview with Songfacts in July 31, the rock star said "I don't get along with anybody who's a drug addict and has a dark cloud over their head and sees themselves as a victim."

"Drug addicts and alcoholics are always: 'The world is a harsh place.' My mother was in a concentration camp in Nazi Germany. I don't want to hear... all about 'the world as a harsh place.' She gets up every day, smells the roses and loves life. And for a putz, 20-year-old kid to say, 'I'm depressed, I live in Seattle.'... then kill yourself," Gene Simmons' depression comment went.

"I never understand, because I always call them on their bluff. I'm the guy who says 'Jump!' when there's a guy on top of a building who says, 'That's it, I can't take it anymore, I'm going to jump,'" Simmons added. "Are you kidding? Why are you announcing it? Shut... up, have some dignity and jump! You've got the crowd."

"By the way, you walk up to the same guy on a ledge who threatens to jump and put a gun to his head, 'I'm going to blow your... head off!' He'll go, 'Please don't!' It's true. He's not insane," his statement continued.

These statements made by Gene Simmons about depression sparked the outrage of many people, including Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx, who said "I like Gene, but in this situation, I don't like Gene," reported Metal Insider.

"I'm a recovering drug addict," Sixx said. "If I had done what Gene Simmons said and that is to jump, so many wonderful things would have not happened in my life. We've just lost Robin Williams. He dealt with drug addiction and mainly depression."

Sixx also said that he worries how Kiss fans going through a rough patch would take Simmons' statement and just decide that "'He's right. I should just kill myself.'"

Simmons had since apologized for the statements. "I was wrong and in the spur of the moment made remarks that in hindsight were made without regard for those who truly suffer the struggles of depression," his Facebook post read.
