Lady Gaga and G-dragon: The Facts, The Comparisons, And The Speculations

Lady Gaga's appearance in South Korea's over the weekend reminded some K-pop fans of her apparent similarities with the Korean prince himself, G-dragon. While only a few things can be said for certain about the two mega-stars, some fans have begun to wonder about a future musical collaboration between the two.

The facts: G-dragon certainly knows that Lady Gaga exists and given the reports of Lady Gaga's bid to work with one of G-dragon's biggest producers, Teddy Park, she must certainly know he exists. Moreover, they have also worked with the same stylist, Nicola Formichetti, as G-dragon gifted the stylist a song for his men's fashion show in January of 2013.

And then of course there are plenty of side by side photo comparisons of the two artists various similar fashion choices. (See photos and fan reactions here).

Most importantly, the first major news comparison of the two pop stars occurred last year around the time that G-dragon released his second solo album, "Coup D'Etat." The New York Times music critic Jon Caramanica stated that, "his malleability is more reminiscent of female stars like Lady Gaga, Kesha and Nicki Minaj, all of whom are as much about the packaging as what's inside." This is arguably the first time that a major publication linked the two artists stylistically.

But what can really be speculated about the two stars both known for their eclectic music styles and risky fashion trends? After Teddy Park's refusal to work with Lady Gaga on the principle that he only works with artists he knows, it seems that mutual fans can't expect a collaboration between the two anytime soon, despite their attempts to bolster support via Facebook.  Also, there has been some conflict between non-mutual fans that one has either copied the other, or they couldn't possibly be related.

There is no doubt a link between the two artists as there is an unmistakable connection via their influence and talent in their respective home countries and worldwide. Although it is not explicitly clear that the two have met, it might also not be too far-fetched to believe that someday if G-dragon makes a solo debut in the U.S., Lady Gaga will be the biggest artist yet to endorse him. Hopefully it's because like the rest of us, may have noticed their somewhat coincidental connection.
