Taylor Swift Announces First Pop Album ‘1989’, And Releases Single ‘Shake It Off’

It's official, Taylor Swift has gone pop. If you noticed that "Shake It Off" was trending on Twitter earlier today it's because Taylor Swift finally released her the new single from her upcoming album, "1989," due out in October.

Taylor Swift, infamous for slowly revealing tidbits about her upcoming work to her devoted fans, exposed what she's been up to this morning on the top of the Empire State Building. The announcement of the new album was first revealed to a special group of handpicked fans and soon thereafter the rest of the world.

Variety reports that Swift calls this her "favorite album I've ever made" and that this would be her first official Pop album as opposed to her usual combination of the country and pop genres.

The song "Shake It Off" was produced by Max Martin and Shellback, the same team that brought her other hits "I Knew You Were Trouble" and "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." Their goal, according to USA Today, was to create something that was completely different than anything she has done before.

The music video for "Shake It Off" features some of Swift's usual quirkiness and various different looks from late 80s and early 90s. Does this along with the album title "1989" hint at a possible theme for the album? Given the also newly released Polaroid album cover, one might speculate so.

Taylor Swift, ever the fan pleaser, also announced some surprises for the physical album itself. The new album will include her usual secret messages in the liner copy and a set of 13 photos that will be different in each copy. She also plans to give away 1,000 tickets and 500 meet'n'greets for her next tour with the amount of prizes totaling 1,989, like the album title.

"1989" will be released on October 27th. Until then, Taylor Swift fans can look forward to the singer's performance at this weekend's MTV Music Video Awards, and also check out her appearance in the film "The Giver" that was released last weekend.
