Taylor Swift Announces New Album Entitled '1989'; Uses Social Media To Promote First Pop Record

Taylor Swift's "1989," her first pop album, made headlines as she took to social media the announcement of its release date.

Taylor Swift's "1989," which is slated to be released on October 27, was formally announced on a worldwide Yahoo! Livestream on Monday, reported The Washington Post.

"This is my very first official, documented pop album," the "You Belong With Me" singer said during the live stream.

The 24-year-old Taylor Swift said "1989" was inspired by the late 80's, even though she was born on the decade's last year.

"I loved the chances they were taking," Swift said. "It was apparently a time of limitless potential.. The idea of that was so inspiring to me."

A premiere of her first single off the album entitled "Shake It Off" was simultaneously made on Vevo, while the announcement was streamed by Yahoo.

"The idea I came up with... I had to learn a pretty tough lesson in the past couple of years, that people can say anything they want about us at any time and we cannot control it," Taylor Swift said about "1989."

"You can descend into insanity over it if you want. Option two is you can just shake it off," she added.

Swift also revealed the album cover: a Polaroid photo of herself, which the singer said was accidentally taken.

During the talk-show-like announcement, Swift also directed fans to her website where they could preorder the album in different versions.

According to the New York Times, Swift appears to be "taking the next step in a constantly evolving game of album promotion by pop stars."

Swift sparked interest for "1989" by guesting on "The Tonight Show" with Jimmy Fallon and posting photo teasers to her Instagram account, which has 10.4 million followers.

Her previous album "Red" was released with the help of partnerships with brands like Target, Walgreens and Papa John's pizza.
