'Five Nights At Freddy’s': Your Chuck E. Cheese Nightmares Come True

For those of us who have always found the animal robots at Chuck E. Cheese a bit disturbing, a new indie game for the Windows platform entitled "Five Nights At Freddy's" gives you the opportunity to live through five nights as a security guard at a similar restaurant. So basically, all of your Chuck E. Cheese nightmares about intelligent yet soulless animal robots coming after you are available for download.

Indie DB playfully summarizes the gameplay: "Welcome to your new summer job at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, where kids and parents alike come for entertainment and food as far as the eye can see! The main attraction is Freddy Fazbear, of course; and his two friends. They are animatronic robots, programmed to please the crowds! The robots' behavior has become somewhat unpredictable at night however, and it was much cheaper to hire you as a security guard than to find a repairman."

Kotaku reports that the game "has its fair share of cheap-ish jump scare 'screamer' moments, but the real tension comes from frantically switching between cameras and monitoring this slice of pizza-scented hell with a very limited power supply."

The only complaint with the game comes from the slow download and start time according to IGM. The overall review of the game explains however that the game is a "fantastic example of how cleverness in design and subtlety can be used to make an experience terrifying."

Based on the fan reactions across video game forums, one would have to agree with this assessment. But if that's not enough to convince you, the entire gameplay has been graciously documented by YouTuber Markiplier Even he admits, "No other game has given me a greater feeling of dread than this one."

"Five Nights At Freddy's" was released on July 24th this year. The game is currently available for download on Steam and Amazon for $4.99.
