Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp have split up after three years of dating.

According to a report on Closer Weekly on Wednesday, Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp "split a couple of weeks ago."

A source close to John Mellencamp reportedly told the publication that the rocker had an issue with privacy and it might have been one of the reasons why he and Ryan split up.

"I don't think he loved all the attention he got just from dating an actress," the source allegedly said. "I bet he'll stay away from dating another famous person for a while."

John Mellencamp was reportedly vocal about his intentions to tie the knot with Ryan, a source said. "John has long held out that they could marry."

Meanwhile, a report on People said that a source cited distance as the culprit for the  Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp split. "It was the distance," the source allegedly claimed. "She lives in New York and he resides in Indiana. It was the long distance that ultimately was the cause."

While Meg Ryan was reportedly alright with visiting John Mellencamp in his hometown, she does not have any plans of moving there.

John Mellencamp had also been expressive of his thoughts about living in New York in the past. He reportedly told Rolling Stone in December last year that he was "too sensitive to live there." "I can't see poor people. I can't see the suffering. I can't see the trash on the streets... I'm not leaving Indiana. I'm going to die here."

Meanwhile, representatives from both parties have not given statements confirming the news that Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp have split.

Meg Ryan, who had been previously married to Dennis Quaid, is directing her first movie called "Ithaca." John Mellencamp, who was married for 19 years to supermodel Elaine Irwing, is working on a new record and preparing for his "Ghost Brothers Of A Darkland Country" tour.
