Miley Cyrus was banned from performing in the Dominican Republic after her reported onstage antics and twerking performance on the MTV VMAs violated the country's "morals and customs."

The 21-year-old "Wrecking Ball" singer was scheduled to perform in Santo Domingo on Sept. 13.

The government of the Dominican Republic cancelled Miley Cyrus's Bangerz Tour show and banned the controversial pop singer from performing in the country on the grounds of morality.

The commission that oversees public performances said the pop star "undertakes acts that go against morals and customs, which are punishable by Dominican law." Like when Miley Cyrus appeared with Robin Thicke at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. The government said the under Dominican law the singer could be criminally punished.

The Santo Domingo Miley Cyrus concert tickets have been on sale since July. Concert organizers in the Dominican Republic did not comment on the ban. Neither Miley Cyrus nor her representatives have made any comment.

Miley Cyrus joins a long list of musicians who have been banned from performing in countries. Lady Gaga was banned from performing in Malaysia. Oasis was barred from playing in China. Amy Winehouse had her United States Tour shortened, 50 Cent had problems in Canada. Snoop Dogg was banned in the United Kingdom and Australia. Chris Brown was barred from playing in the U.K.

The Dominican Republic public performance commission banned from the airwaves songs it considers vulgar in the past, reportedly including some by Calle 13 of Puerto Rico.
