Where Did You Get Those Moves? BuzzFeed Helps Americans Tackle K-Pop Dance Routines

Have you and your friends ever tried to learn any of the complicated dance routines featured in K-Pop music videos? Whether you've shaken your booty while mimicking KARA, showed your arrogance like the Brown Eyed Girls, or waved your hands around a la Big Bang, you know that mastering the moves takes a lot of work.

BuzzFeed, the internet news media company you've probably seen sprinkled throughout your Facebook news feed, has taken on the challenge of learning some of the more famous K-Pop dance numbers.

In a recent video uploaded to BuzzFeed's YouTube channel, various staff members try to perfect their K-Pop moves, and the results are hilarious.

Starting out rather easily with the "Arrogance Dance" first made popular by the Brown Eyed Girls in 2009's "Abracadabra" and later adapted in Psy's "Gentleman" music video, the dozen or so Americans swivel their hips to the beat. "Your upper body is stable while your lower body is having a sex party," explains the instructor.

The group then moves into learning the routine for f(x)'s "Electric Shock." "I'm shocked by how fast this dance is," exclaims one exacerbated girl. But despite the fast pace and complicated footwork, everyone is all smiles as they boogie down.

Removing his shirt to whooping and laughter, one of the male participants prepares himself to learn Big Bang's "Fantastic Baby" choreography. "Hey ladies. I'm T.O.P," he says gazing into the camera. By the end of their practicing, most of the guys seem to have a pretty good handle on the wiper move created by Seungri for the song.

KARA's "butt dance" was also tackled by the BuzzFeed staff where they affectionately referred to it as "Korean twerking."

For "Sorry Sorry," easily Super Junior's most recognizable routine, the group was told to "rub your hands together like you're Mr. Burns," an apt description for the dance's hand gestures. "I didn't do it well, but I had swag in my face, so I think it's going to sell," says one guy ultimately pleased with his performance.

"We are definitely not the best" was one opinion of the group attempting to master the moves for 2NE1's "I Am the Best." But despite some wardrobe complications, the dancers managed to get a pretty good handle on the moves in the end, even if they were not totally in-sync.

"Ring Ding Dong" was another fun song for the Americans to give a go at, especially after the instructor described the signature move as "You're a surfer having sex with a wave." SHINee's sexy spirit obviously struck a chord with one guy as after some time, he stripped down to reveal his American flag briefs.

"The style of this is everything you thought K-Pop was," was the disclaimer before the group tried to tackle "Gee" by Girls' Generation. "Not hardcore, not super sexy. It's bubbly, adorable, girly."

In the end, the Americans may not have totally mastered the moves, but left with a new sense of admiration for K-Pop idols. "Our boy bands and girl bands don't do moves like this anymore, noted one girl. "It's nice because I don't feel nowadays there are dance crazes." The group also agreed that "It's also hard to hold your smile the whole time."

But it was one guy in particular who summed up the whole K-Pop dance experience the best - "I've never felt more un-athletic in all my life."
