Lena Dunham Proves Her Hair Is Not A Wig: Platinum Blonde “Girls” Star Takes On 2014 Emmys Red Carpet In Colorful, Frilly Frock, Talks Being A ‘Real Woman’ And Taylor Swift

Lena Dunham is a platinum blonde. Like really.

On the 2014 Emmy's red carpet on Monday evening, the 27-year-old "Girls" star ended speculation that she may have recently adopted a rather dramatic wig.

"A paparazzi followed me through LAX the other day asking me how I felt about the 'speculation' that my hair is a wig. It was like the biggest scandal I've ever been embroiled in," Lena told E! News on the Emmys red carpet.

The actress/writer/creator hit the scene at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles in a pink and red, multicolored Giambattista Valli gown.

The frilly number certainly turned heads. But it was her hair that Dunham wanted to talk about.

"It is not a wig," the star told E! "I bleached it last week after I finished the show. I always like to do something-I always have kind of a bad hairstyle as Hannah, so it's nice to kinda chop it off or do something that shows me I'm a real woman," she explained.

Dunham took to Twitter before the Emmys to provide her fans with a playful sneak peek of her style routine.

Dunham tweeted, "Expert beauty tip: prepare for the Emmys by enjoying some huevos rancheros and allowing your hair to marinate in its own natural oils."

Dunham is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on "Girls," which she also created.

On Aug. 22, Dunham posted a teaser video to Twitter, announcing that the fourth season of the HBO series is in production.

Dunham recently made headlines when Taylor Swift revealed to The Guardian that she was a feminist in part because of her friendship with the "Girls" star.

"Becoming friends with Lena - without her preaching to me, but just seeing why she believes what she believes, why she says what she says, why she stands for what she stands for - has made me realize that I've been taking a feminist stance without actually saying so," explained Swift in the interview.

Dunham responded on Twitter, saying:

And when E! asked Dunham about the pairs friendship and the photograph that they took with a group of celebrity pals, the Emmy nominee responded, "I'm very lucky to have some lovely, very beautiful, successful friends but my life is mostly trying to keep my dog from eating my snacks."
