TMZ reports that Hilton crashed his BMW on Interstate 10 near Palm Springs on Saturday. After allegedly clipping the tail end of another car, Hilton's vehicle reportedly swung out of control and hit a tractor-trailer.

The website claims that Hilton was speeding down the highway when he decided to merge lanes but the 20-year-old failed to see the car to his side, a mistake which incited the second and more serious collision.

California Highway Patrol Sgt. Daniel Hesser stated on Tuesday (Aug. 26) that Hilton was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center.

According to TMZ, some sources indicate that Hilton left the accident with only cuts, bruises, and a fractured hand.

However, the Desert Sun reports that Hilton's injuries are" major" and that his condition is unknown at this time.

The website also reports that the California Highway Patrol claimed CHP alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash.

Hilton was involved in another car accident in 2011 when he collided into a parked car, which then rammed into another car. Hilton was rumored to have had medical marijuana and two unopened bottles of wine in the car. The then-teenager was not issued a ticket.

Hilton's sisters, Paris and Nicky, have yet to comment on this latest accident. The remainder of the family has kept mum on the situation thus far as well.

Hilton's celebutante sister Paris has updated her Twitter account since the reported time of the accident, however, inviting fans to join her during a "Foam and Diamonds" party in Ibiza.
