LG G Pad 8.3 vs. Nexus 7: Specs of the Android-powered tablets LG G Pad 8.3 and Nexus 7 is compared in key specs. Before either of this gets replaced, check out the comparison review below of these two units.

It’s generally recognized that since the Nexus 7 is a Google brand, it has the benefit of having the stock Android system and faster updates. Recently, popular Android tablets have released a Google Play Edition of their devices, where instead of a customized Android, it has a stock Android similar to what the Nexus units have. In this review, we look at Google Play Edition of LG G Pad 8.3 that has the same Android OS as the Nexus 7.

The Nexus 7, which came out in 2013, has seen some great response from Android tablet enthusiasts and reviewers. It sells for about 230 dollars US for its 16GB version, $269 for the 32GB version and if you add an LTE connection to the 32 Gig, you would have to cough up just under $350. With the G pad GPE which is selling for $350 and a tad larger than the Nexus 7, consumers are faced with quite a tough decision.

When it comes to the operating software, users will be getting Google Android on both the devices and as usual, can expect to be constantly seeing future upgrades to the software. The Nexus 7 from Asus is already leading the trail thanks to the success of Nexus but the G Pad will catch up quickly since it is a Google Play device. Both the devices offer smooth and seamless experiences since they are running the new and improved Android 4.4 Kitkat interface.

If you do not know much about tablets and just need a good looking device that runs on Android, the decision is simpler. The Nexus 7 would be your best bet since it comes cheaper and offers pretty much all that you will need.

If you are out for a much bigger screen however, your obvious choice becomes the G Pad. The G Pad boasts of 8.3 inches of display real estate which makes a big difference when compared to the 7.02 inches on the Nexus 7.

Deciding on comfort while in the hand is also an easier call to make. Since it is smaller at 7.9 by 4.5 by 0.34 inches, the Nexus 7 can be easily held in one hand. It also only weighs 0.64 lbs. so you can hold it up longer without tiring. The G Pad comes in at 8.5 by 5 by 0.33 so it will be better when held up with both hands. It is also heavier at 0.75 lbs.

If design is a major issue to you, the LG Pad offers a more premium-looking finish. The back panel is a great-looking brushed metal while Asus decided to go with a less noticeable frame and panel from rubberized plastic. Some users may prefer this plastic due to the warmer feel and comfort.

When it comes to the local storage, the G Pad GPE takes the crown with its 16 GB of internal memory that can be expanded upon by slotting in up to 64GB of memory with a card.

Other specs worth a mention are the wireless charging and LTE connectivity from Nexus 7. The Nexus 7 is also the more pocket friendly device when it comes to the pricing.
