'Doom 4' Release Date And Gameplay Reveal Trailer: Pete Hines From Bethesda Says Reveal Will Be In 2015, Still Early In Development Process [VIDEO]

"Doom 4" is release date is coming, with a release date likely sometime next year.

Recenty Pete Hines, Bethesda Softworks VP, told PC Gamer  that 'Doom' 4 will launch next year and that no other previews of the game will be shown anytime soon.

"'Next year is normally when I think we would've started,' said Hines, which means that "Doom 4" will at least see a public reveal in 2015.

The only reason they showed this preview was to point out that 'Doom 4' is actually going to happen.

"I really wanted to put something out there that, in a strong way, said, 'id is working on something that we think is really cool,'" said Hines, "And we wanted ... to show something to [id Software fans] that gives them the confidence that it is still a viable studio that's doing really cool stuff, that is making a game you want to play, and is treating Doom with the care and respect that you want.

"And now we're going to go away and go back to making the game, but to be able to counter other people talking about us and we're sort of just sitting here staying silent, or operating from this negative space of like, 'Oh, it got rebooted, oh it's in trouble.' All of that stuff just bothered the hell out of me,"he added.

You can expect arm ripping off action, massive guns, jet packs, double jumps, and crazy melee kills. Strafing and verticality will be a big part of the gameplay in "Doom 4"

"Because it's been so long since the last 'Doom' game. We are going in as if we need to prove ourselves all over again. We have no free passes. Nobody will assume this is going to be awesome."

The game has been in and out of development since 2008. Initially id Software's Todd Hollenshead explained:

"It's not a sequel to Doom 3, but it's not a reboot either. Doom 3 was sort of a reboot. It's a little bit different than those."

When ZeniMax Media (Bethesda) acquired id software the project was essentially sent back to the drawing board and has now returned to the original story, set on Mars. The trailer makes it very clear that once again humans have opened the portal to hell.

"Doom 4" is still very, very, early in its production cycle, but we can probably expect a release date sometime late next year if there are no problems with production. Check back for more information as we get closer to the "Doom 4" release date.
