Piers Morgan Leaves CNN: Talk Show Host To Seek 'Pastures New', Tweets Suggest Not Thrilled With CNN's Offer?

After four years with CNN, Piers Morgan tweeted that he will no longer be an employee of the network. In another tweet he added that he was offered another two year contract with CNN, but after some thought, declined, and will seek "pastures new." The phrasing in his tweet about said offer have left some wondering if the real reason that Morgan left is because he was unsatisfied with the offer.

According to Variety, "Piers Morgan, the CNN primetime host whose efforts to provide the network with a new type of celebrity-interview show met with ratings headwinds, has officially left the cable news channel after declining a new two-year deal that would have made him the host of a sporadic interview series."

They went on to explain Piers Morgan's actual thoughts on the event: "I was offered a new 2-year deal by CNN boss Jeff Zucker to host 40 big interview ‘specials,' But after considerable thought, I decided not to accept it - and to try pastures new."

Piers Morgan made this announcement in a series of tweets, first by stating that "BREAKING NEWS: I am no longer a @CNN employee." According to The Wire, Morgan has been long gone from CNN since his show was canceled in February, and that this secondary announcement has to specifically deal with his contract expiration. Is the talk show host trying to garner interest from other networks? Alex Weprin's follow-up tweet would say that it's all about his new found "free agency."

The cancellation of the show in February somewhat suggests that the network was unhappy with Piers Morgan's ratings performance, which remained pretty flat from 2012 through 2013. But then why offer the host a new two year contract? The New York Daily News suggests that perhaps Morgan declined the offer because he was dissatisfied with it, "but he added that he has "huge respect" for Zucker and everyone at CNN."

One might suppose that his alleged unhappiness with the offer has to due with his quotations over the word ‘specials' in his tweet about said offer. After having a weekly series, it's easy to see why he wouldn't want to go to a capped amount of random interviews.

Piers Morgan may have become satire fodder for Saturday Night Live over his years at CNN, but given his impressive resume, which includes running several U.K. tabloids and being a judge on "America's Got Talent," one could argue that he will have no trouble finding a new home.
