K-Pop Crossover: NBC to Remake South Korean Travel Variety Show 'Grandpas Over Flowers'

NBC will produce an American version of the South Korean TV travel show "Grandpas over Flowers" called "Better Late Than Never."

The network plans to premiere the show in the first half of 2015.

"It is an exciting time for CJ E&M as our original show formats are getting recognized in global market, going beyond Asia," said Lee Deok-Jae, Senior Media Executive at CJ E&M.

"Not simply exporting ideas, but selling full package of show formats, we are leading the development and expansion of Korean TV contents while enhancing our brand power in global media industry."

"Grandpas over Flowers" is the first Korean variety show to be adapted by a national broadcast network in North America.

Renamed "Better Late Than Never," the show will reportedly follow four veteran actors as they backpack their way across Asian countries accompanied by a young porter.

"Grandpas Over Flowers," featured five actors in their seventies who took a backpack trip around the world. It debuted on the cable channel tvN last year.

Since then, the show has aired for two seasons as well as spawned a spin-off, "Sisters Over Flowers," which featured well-known actresses taking the trip. Last month, the producers also launched the series, "Friends Over Flowers."

"Better Late Than Never" will be produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, best known for their work on "The Bucket List" and NBC's live broadcast of "Sound of Music." Zadan and Meron will next produce NBC's upcoming live telecast of "Peter Pan," starring Allison Williams of "Girls" fame.
