Nicki Minaj High School Snub: LaGuardia High Rejected 'Pills And Potions' Rapper's Visit Because She Wanted To Bring Video Crew?

In a somewhat perplexing move, Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School apparently banned alumnus Nicki Minaj from coming in to visit it’s current students. The rapper, who has always spoken highly of the school, expressed her dismay and disappointment via Twitter on Thursday. The New York City Department of Education is now claiming that the school only turned Minaj down because she wanted to film the event, but it sounds like no one explained that to her.

Minaj tweeted about the rejection, “I wanted to go back to my  HS and speak to the students but the new principal declined. No need for me to inspire them, I guess. Smh.” When followers asked if they gave a reason, the rapper responded, “Not really,” later adding, “I guess I’m not good enough.” She followed by saying, “That school changed my life and I wanted to pay it forward to the students there now. I was really looking forward to it.”

The Department of Education told Gossip Cop that the decision was made because Minaj’s plan to bring a camera crew violates school policy. A spokesperson said, “Of course alumni are welcome back to our campuses and we love to celebrate their success, providing it does not interrupt the educational process.” The spokesperson went on, “However, we do not allow reality TV to be filmed on school property. For documentaries, any visit to a public school must be educational in nature and cannot intrude on instruction.” The spokesperson did not say whether Minaj was offered a chance to visit the school if she left the video cameras behind.

Minaj has often credited the school, which inspired the movie Fame, with helping her get where she is today. In 2013 she told Teen Vogue, “Everyone there was so creative. For once, I didn’t feel like there was something weird about me.” Lately the rapper has expressed interest in being a strong role model, albeit in her own unique way. In this month’s issue Dazed & Confused magazine, she reveals her dream of someday making $500 million, but provides a noble reason for arriving at that sum: “When I reach my 500-million-dollar goal,” she explains, “then no other woman in rap will ever feel like they can’t do what these men have done.”
