Arnold Schwarzenegger Removes Maria Shriver’s Face From Official Portrait In California Capitol Building

Arnold Schwarzenegger has taken an extra step in solidifying his divorce from ex-wife Maria Shriver. The former Governor of California reportedly had Shriver's face removed from his official portrait that will hang in the state Capitol building.

However, the former first lady's elimination did leave a smudge.

When Schwarzenegger originally had his portrait done, he was painted wearing a lapel pin that included his then-wife's face. The inclusion of Shriver in the portrait was meant as a sweet gesture.

However, the Governor and his wife split up in 2011, just as news hit that Schwarzenegger had fathered a son through a shocking affair with the family's maid. The couple, who had been married for almost 25 years and share four children, endured a whirlwind of media coverage but have since moved on separately.

As Schwarzenegger unveiled his portrait at the California Capitol building on Sept. 8th, it quickly became apparent that the former Governor had scrubbed Maria's face from the painting.

"Whoever touched it up did not do a very good job," Capitol tour guide Richard Granis told The New York Post. "It was softball sized, right there on his left lapel."

"It's too bad they couldn't remove it without creating a smudge that got a lot of attention," Clay Russell, a former aide to the Governor, told the LA Times.

Schwarzenegger has not commented on the change in the painting, nor has Shriver.

However, the film star-turned politician did reflect on what the portrait represents-his term in office.

"When I was a young man in Austria, I dreamed about coming to California every day," said Schwarzenegger during the ceremony. "But never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would become governor.
