Weekend Box Office Roundup: ‘No Good Deed’ Beats ‘Dolphin Tale 2’, ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ To Surpass $300 Million

Despite critics not being too thrilled, "No Good Deed" starring Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson, is off to a good start as it opened ahead of "Dolphin Tale 2," and came in first on Friday. Additionally, although "Guardians of the Galaxy" is nearing its finish in U.S. theaters, it is set to surpass $300 million in gross this weekend, the first film to do so since "Frozen" was released.

Taraji P. Henson recently explained to Ebony Magazine, "I try to work out at least five days a week. But if it reaches the point where I am not satisfied, I'm just going to be like, "Can you suck this out of me? Thanks!" Well, based on the amount of people who poured in to see her in "No Good Deed," it would seem that people still find the actress worth paying money to see.

Box Office Mojo reports, "‘No Good Deed' dominated the box office on Friday, while Dolphin Tale 2 opened below its predecessor. Meanwhile, crime drama ‘The Drop' exceeded expectations with a fourth place debut." The film made $8.8 million and is on track to rake in $22-25 million by the end of the weekend.

Although initially it was predicted that "Dolphin Tale 2" would open ahead of "No Good Deed," it would seem that the family centered film did not draw the same crowd that it's first film did, opening at a modest $4.27 million.

Even though it didn't retain its number one spot, "Guardians of the Galaxy" is still moving right along. Variety states that, "This year's box office champ and summer savior, "Guardians of the Galaxy," made $2 million on Friday to place third after three consecutive wins. It's set to gross $7.5 million by Sunday and pass $305 million."

Since this weekend will more than likely belong to "No Good Deed," Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson can celebrate knowing they can still draw in crowds despite competing with a cute animal film and a group of offbeat Marvel superheroes.
