Adrian Peterson's 4 Year Old Son Beaten with a Tree Branch: Minnesota Vikings Running Back Indicted for Child Injury, Released from Jail [PHOTO]

ESPN reports that Minnesota Running Back Adrian Peterson turned himself into Montgomery County, Texas early Saturday morning. He had been indicted by a grand jury for on charges for reckless or negligent injury to a child, and a warrant had been issued for his arrest.

Peterson was booked into the Montgomery County jail at 1:06am and was released at 1:35am after posting a $15,000 bond.

The Viking Age reports that the warrant stemmed from Peterson's disciplining of his 4-year old son with a switch. The incident happened this past May, and USA Today reports that the level of physical discipline was "not reasonable" by Texas community standards.

Phil Grant, first assistant District Attorney in Montgomery County, Texas, stated, "Obviously, parents are entitled to discipline their children as they see fit, except for when that discipline exceeds what the community would say is reasonable...And so a grand jury having indicted this case, looked at the injuries that were inflicted upon this child and determined that that discipline was not reasonable and did not reflect the community standards of what was reasonable discipline," further explaining the county's reason for indictment.

Peterson's attorney Rusty Hardin responded, "[Peterson] used the same kind of discipline with his child that he experienced as a child growing up in east Texas...Adrian has never hidden from what happened. He has cooperated fully with authorities and voluntarily testified before the grand jury for several hours," highlighting Peterson's past childhood experiences and giving further reason for the incident.

Hardin further commented, "Peterson is a loving father who used his judgment as a parent to discipline his son...he never intended to harm his son and deeply regrets the unintentional injury."

Peterson lost his 2-year old son last year when the boy died of head injuries due to a beating by the mother's boyfriend in South Dakota. The man involved was charged with murder and manslaughter.
