Hannah Storm Returns To ESPN With Emotional Demand: 'What Does the NFL Stand For?' After Ray Rice Surveillance Video Prompts Questions [VIDEO]

Hannah Storm wants to know "what does the NFL stand for" after learning the organization will apparently stand for violence against women.

Hannah Storm loves football. The ESPN anchor said she was "genuinely excited" to start covering the first week of the NFL season. But instead of covering the games she was confronted by unexpected football news. TMZ released a video made from a security tape that showed Ray Price, a running back for the Baltimore Ravens, punching and knocking out his then-fiancée Janay Palmer in an Atlantic City hotel elevator. Even though the footage surfaced in February, the NFL didn't cut Ray until last week.

Storm delivered an emotional address at the end of Sunday's telecast of SportsCenter about that surveillance footage, after she found herself tortured over "impossible" questions from her three daughters. Questions like "Mom, why did he do that? Why isn't he in jail? Why didn't he get fired?"

Storm looked like she was near tears as she shared "At breakfast this week, instead of discussing how her team was doing, we watched the Ray Rice video play out again in all of its ugliness. I spent this week answering seemingly impossible questions about the league's biggest stars. 'Mom, why did he do that? Why isn't he in jail? Why didn't he get fired?' And yesterday, 'Why don't they even have control of their own players?'

"So here's a question," Storm continued. "What does all of this mean for the future? What does it mean for female fans, whose dollars are so coveted by the NFL, who make up an estimated 45 percent of the NFL's fan base? Are fans and are families, are we as parents supposed to compartmentalize everything that's happening? Are we supposed to simply separate a violent game on the field from violent acts off the field? And if we do, what message does that send?"

"In the NFL, apparently seeing is believing," Storm added. "If the NFL and the Ravens had to see that video to be moved to significant action, then shouldn't those who support the league demand the same? To see action? To see change before believing, as we all wait on the answer to the central question: what exactly does the NFL stand for?"

In closing, Storm asked "Will the NFL, in all its power, take the lead on the issue of domestic violence?"
