Reggie Bush Defends Adrian Peterson: Detroit Lions Running Back Thinks Peterson 'Should Definitely Be Allowed To Play Football;' Supports Harsh Methods of Discipline [PHOTO]

According to NBC Sports, Detroit Lions Running back Reggie Bush supports Adrian Peterson's methods of child punishment. Peterson has recently been suspended indefinitely from the Minnesota Vikings, but some NFL players like Bush view his treatment of his 4-year-old son as simply a type of parental discipline.

Bush commented, "I was punished the same way... And I know a lot of my friends and a lot of the guys I played with, they were punished the same way, too," emphasizing that he received similar harsh treatment growing up. He continued by saying he would also punish his daughter 1-year-old daughter, if necessary. "I definitely will try to - not leave bruises or anything like that on her... But I definitely will discipline her harshly depending on what the situation is."

In an interview with CBS New York Radio Station WFAN, Bush said he thought Peterson "should definitely be allowed to play football," and that he would consider using a switch, as Peterson did, to discipline his own children. However, he later corrected himself, saying he misspoke. "I said spanking...Spanking is different than a branch or a stick."

After the interview, Bush clarified his opinions by writing on Twitter, "Let's get one thing straight, people - I believe in disciplining a child, period! I believe in spanking a child (if needed), not beating them!"

However, after the Adrian Peterson controversy, now might not be the right time to advocate for corporal punishment. ThinkProgress reports that the use of corporal punishment is controversial, but even defenders of the practice argue that it should not be used on infants or young children.

The American Association of Pediatrics notes that spanking is an incredibly common form of discipline, and does not rule it out as an acceptable form of punishment (though it advocates non-violent forms of discipline). However, it distinguishes spanking from other forms of corporal punishment - such as striking a child with an object - which it says should never be used.

With all of this in mind, what is your opinion on corporal punishment?
