Although the "Full Metal Panic!" light novel series has been completed, news has been scarce for quite some time as to whether a continuation of the anime would be the next step. Another tease at the possibility was offered again today as scans from Dragon Magazine revealed that a new "Full Metal Panic!" project is coming soon. This was further confirmed by the light novel illustrator Douji Shiki on twitter. But will the new project be season four of the anime?

"Something is moving," said illustrator Douji Shiki on his official Twitter, or at least that's what one can gather from a basic translation from Japanese to English of the first sentence. As for what it actually confirms, Crunchyroll reports that it's a response to a recent coming soon spread in Dragon Magazine for popular series "Full Metal Panic!"

But what indeed is coming soon?

For those unaware, "Full Metal Panic!" has teased and taunted various new releases since 2011, but none about what fans really seem to want, "Full Metal Panic!" season four. Perhaps that's partially because the ending of the light novels are not easily adaptable. According to one fan in a Reddit thread, "Without getting too spoil-y, suffice it to say that they'd basically have to animate everything that hasn't been animated yet in one shot, probably a 52 episode series, because there's no good stopping point."

Despite this assertion, many fans in both the Reddit thread and Crunchyroll comment section still hope for a continuation that completes the anime series as opposed to a separate story. As one fan admits, "Chances aren't very high for a season 4/continuation but I'm hoping so!"

While nothing has been confirmed as to what the "Full Metal Panic!" project will be, chances are that North American fans can probably expect Funimation to license it for release, given that the company was the last to license the DVD/Blu-ray version of the anime. Here's hoping it is indeed "Full Metal Panic!" season 4.
