Profile Of A K-Pop Fan: Why Infinite Is Definitely The Best For 15-Year-Old Filipina-Canadian Andrea Vila

NAME: Andrea Vila

AGE: 15

BORN: Pangasinan, Philippines

HOME: Calgary, Alberta

CURRENTLY: sophomore in high school

INTRO TO K-POP: "I got into K-pop when I was in grade eight, but my earliest K-pop memory was when I was in fifth grade and I watched 'Gee' by Girls' Generation," Vila said. "I stared listening to K-pop because it made me feel happy. When I'm sad, I listen to K-pop and it makes me feel better. The songs and videos are way better than American music. I also made a lot of friends thanks to K-pop, not just people in my school but also international fans from around the world."

THE DIFFERENCE: "K-pop is different from pop music of other countries because the songs don't talk about drugs, partying and money," Vila said. "The lyrics are actually meaningful.  Also in their music videos, they keep things simple. It's either them dancing throughout the whole video or it's a story line with actors and actresses. They don't really show anything exposing and if they do, they don't overdo it to the point where you feel disturbed or grossed out by it."

FAVORITE GROUP: Infinite

INFINITELY BETTER: "Infinite is a really hard-working group," Vila said. "I've never seen a group that practices their dance moves for 18 hours! You can see that based on their synchronized dance moves. And not only that, they practice their dance moves for 10 hours on a normal day. I also love Infinite because they are really kind boys. They are well-mannered, kind and respect the elderly. Once they make a mistake, they would realize it and try to change it. When they apologize for their mistakes, they apologize with a real and sincere heart."

FAVORITE INFINITE SONG: Sungkyu's version of "Only Tears"

"When he sang it was like angels were singing," Vila said. "He sang from his heart. He made me feel happy and sad. I was about to cry. He even sang it in Japanese."

FAVORITE SOLO ARTIST: IU

WHY IU: "I loved her acting in 'Dream High,' and I think she has an amazing singing voice," Vila said. "She tries really hard in everything she does."

FAVORITE IU SONG: "Someday"

FAN CREDENTIALS: "I've never been to a K-pop concert, party or fan event because K-pop artists never come to Canada," Vila said. Yet that hasn't stopped the teen from reaching out to some of her favorite artists. "I've written to EXO's Kris and Chanyeol and to Infinite's Sungkyu."
