New Ghostbusters Movie Will Not Be Connected To Previous Movies; Director Paul Feig Says Kate Dippold Will Co Write The Female Led Film [PHOTO]

After much speculation, the third installment of "Ghostbusters" has finally been confirmed. According to Cinema Blend, Director Paul Feig ("Bridesmaids") has finally accepted the challenge of updating the storyline for a new generation, and he's bringing screenwriter Kate Dippold ("The Heat") along with him.

Recently, Feig tweeted, "It's official. I'm making a new Ghostbusters and writing it with Kate Dippold and yes, it will star hilarious women. That's who I'm gonna call," conveying that the cast will indeed be female-led. So far, there is no word on who the cast might include, but speculators guess that Kate Dippold might favor actresses from "Parks and Recreation" due to her involvement with the show.

Feig has also added that the new movie will "no longer be connected to the earlier movies but now launch a new series." In an interview with IGN, Feig stated, "Everything is up for grabs right now... I look at this the same way a superhero movie launches where it's always fun to see, like, what are they going to do with the costumes this time? What are they going to do with the hardware this time? It's not going to be, here is the exact same stuff. It's also not going to go, screw you, if you like that stuff, it's all completely different.

We're going to have fun with it, but again, bring it into our time period. I'm a big hardware nerd when it comes to sci-fi and all of that so I love all the gear and I love all that. We're really going to have fun with playing with the science of it. I think fans will be very happy with what we do because it has fun with what came before but it's new. It's just a new, fun take on it."

He has also added that he wants the new Ghostbusters movie to be a tad scarier than previous films. He stated, "I want the technology to be even cooler. I want it to be really scary, and I want it to happen in our world today that hasn't gone through it so it's like, oh my God what's going on?"

So far, there are no whispers of release dates. Nevertheless, it sounds like Ghostbusters fans will definitely have something to look forward to.
