‘Psycho-Pass 2’ Premiere Reveals A New ‘Psycho-Pass’ Feature Film Trailer, ‘Puella Magi Madoka Magica’ Writer Gen Urobuchi To Pen Screenplay Alongside Makoto Fukami [VIDEO]

Today marks the premiere of the highly anticipated anime "Psycho-Pass 2." Reactions to the anime (which was simulcast for North America thanks to Funimation) have been full of spoilers and thoughts, but fans should take notice of a new trailer for the feature length animated "Psycho-Pass" film.

Anime News Network recently talked to writer/creator Gen Urobuchi, sometimes affectionately called "The Urobutcher," about "Psycho-Pass."

"Our world and that of Psycho-Pass aren't completely alien - there are a lot of shared problems, issues, and concepts," he said. "But one of the most important themes I was trying to convey in the creation of ‘Psycho-Pass' was ‘fear' in the world. That's why he has this sense of feeling out of place."

Although Urobuchi is not in charge of writing the second season of "Psycho-Pass," with the return of the Sybil system, fans can be assured that the theme of fear will continue. Nevertheless, while "Psycho-Pass 2" might be at the forefront of Urobuchi excitement, a new trailer for a "Psycho-Pass" film has also been released.

The trailer is only 16 seconds long, but given that the "Psycho-Pass" movie is set to premiere on January 9th, there's likely to be more information about the film as "Psycho-Pass 2" continues to air. Protagonist Akane Tsunemori is the only character in the trailer (which fans can view below) which suggests it will be a stand alone story following her journey.

According to Anime News Network, Writer Makoto Fukami (Chotto Kawaii Iron Maiden, Ōsama-tachi no Viking) reported on his blog in July that he was writing the film's screenplay with Gen Urobuchi. Fukami collaborated with Urobuchi on the first season of "Psycho-Pass" so there will likely be more of Urobuchi's original intentions, and maybe even perhaps a character journey that rivals that of Madoka's in "Puella Magi Madoka Magica."

There's still a few months for the "Psycho-Pass" movie, but there's plenty of "Psycho-Pass 2" episodes left to keep fans excited until then.
