A Look At Red Velvet's Style Transition From 'Happiness' To 'Be Natural'

It was a rather surprising moment when SM Entertainment debuted four-member rookie group Red Velvet. Unlike other SM Entertainment artists such as f(x) and EXO, Red Velvet's debut lacked the usual theatrics and pre-debut teaser gimmicks typical of the company's artists.

Despite this disadvantage, Red Velvet managed to catch everyone's attention with their bright and fun image. Other than their natural good looks, the Red Velvet members showed off a unique concept inspired by tropical environments and colors.

And yes, those gorgeous colourfully dip-dyed locks were a huge catch. The last time we saw such a thing was on f(x) member Krystal in the video for "Nu Abo." The Red Velvet girls, all sporting different colors, fashion out the trend more tastefully this time around, and look far less weird.

Red Velvet's style for their debut video, "Happiness," is typical of young girly-girl groups. The cropped tops, the nautical-themed outfits, and attempt at cheering was all too expected. But we give the girls props for creativity and being age-appropriate. The girls, aged 18 to 23, looked cute in their colourful outfits and it made them even more likeable.

It feels like it was just yesterday that Red Velvet first debuted and now they are back with a new track and concept. And we couldn't believe our eyes.

Appearing in the "Be Natural" MV were four girls who made a huge transition and grew up before our very eyes. The concept change was too abrupt and many people were ill prepared for it.

For the "Be Natural" concept, the members look sharp in tailored blazers in pointed heels. They kept the colors very tastefully chic in black, white, and red. The look is overall classic and elegant. Although the girls seem to pose a bit more maturely here compared to "Happiness," we're not complaining. The music video, from concept to song to outfits, was executed gracefully.

The question now is, which concept do you prefer for Red Velvet?
