Are Mindy Kaling And BJ Novak Back Together? Writer-Comedian Opens About Relationships, Sex On Her Show And Criticism

After getting spotted together having dinner, rumors have started flying about Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak getting back together. The "Office" alums were recently seen together in public and while the "Mindy Project" actress maintains there is nothing romantic about their relationship, she admits that the sudden interest in her lovelife is amusing.

"I'm boring that I see him at least once a week just to hang out," said Mindy Kaling about BJ Novak to E! Online. "And now it has, like, a patina of coolness to it - which I love." She added, "We went to dinner before we saw 'Gone Girl,' so I love that that very boring anecdote errand-slash-meal was considered sexy."

The couple dated 10 years ago and the actress admitted the relationship was complicated. In an interview with Howard Stern in September, Kaling confessed it was Novak who initiated the breakup. "That was the hottest I ever looked because I stopped eating," she said about the phase in her life. "When I get depressed, I stop eating so I was so miserable and I was so beautiful."

Answering if there really is nothing going on between her and Novak romantically, she said "I love him and I think he's a great person but I'm not holding a handle for BJ."

While Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak are confirmed to be a non-item, Mindy Lahiri's lovelife has taken off.

Speaking to Cosmopolitan, the actress-writer shared what inspires her in terms of writing Mindy and Danny's love story. "When we decided at the end of last season to have them get together, there were so many people who were scared that it was too soon... There's so much that's funny about their characters that's not just this suspense of whether they're going to be together or not."

The show has garnered both good and positive remarks after showing an episode that involved butt sex. Kaling explained that the show "has always been sexual" and they are taking a shift in the new season and will focus more on Mindy's career.

A show that attempts to defy norms naturally receives negative comments, Kaling addressed criticism for her work by saying "Everyone can have an opinion, and it's up to me to select the people whose opinions I will listen to. I'm like, 'OK, I care more about the feedback of young women watching the show who feel that something bothered them, and addressing them, than I do about a blogger at a newspaper that has never liked me.'"
