GoPro Hero4 Release To Be Affected By Backlash From Michael Schumacher’s Supporters? Sports Camera Allegedly One Factor For Formula One Driver’s Head Injury

In December 2013, renowned racing driver Michael Schumacher's skiing accident in the French Alps left him with brain contusions and hemorrhages. After being air lifted to a hospital, he has been placed in a medically induced coma until June 2014. He is currently at home for rehabilitation although details about his condition remain sparse.

Recently, French journalist Jean Louis Moncet came up with a theory regarding Michael Schumacher's accident. As opposed to what others claim that the sportsman's helmet collided with an equally hard surface, Moncet blamed the GoPro Hero camera attached to the helmet.

"The problem for Michael was not the hit, but the mounting of the Go-Pro camera that he had on his helmet that injured his brain," said the commentator. He likewise tweeted that his claims were merely his opinion.

While Moncet's claims are unfounded, it is undeniable that the GoPro mount can cause serious head injuries if the mount indeed pierced through the helmet.

The association of the sports camera to Michael Schumacher's accident reportedly paved way for a decrease in the company shares.

"The stock declined 9.9 percent to $76.67 Monday in the wake of reports in the New York Post and other outlets. Shares fell another $1.64, or 2.1 percent, Tuesday," reported Oregon Live.

With growing concerns about the cameras' safety, some are wondering whether the GoPro Hero4 release will be affected. The company has not yet released a statement. Spokesperson Jeff Brown says that they are still gathering information about the reports.

Meanwhile, the 45-year-old Schumi is "waking up very slowly" according to his son.
